Having worked on 100+ motion graphics for various teams at Microsoft, I understand the unique storytelling opportunities and technical challenges this type of content presents.

For the Microsoft C+E team, they wanted to run announcements (dark ads on paid social) about Azure software updates on Twitter and Facebook as ads for their developer audience. They turned to our team because they knew how dry and overly technical these ads were—which was not appealing to their audience. My team up-leveled the copy and graphics to be more fun, witty, and simplified with a modern, eye-catching motion graphic feel to keep developers engaged and interested in clicking to learn more.
My role | As the lead producer on this work, I helped on everything from initial ideation around what package of services to offer clients and scope proposals, to managing the budget tightly for each motion graphic and lending an eye (or ear) when copy or design needed another opinion on things. I also maintained direct communication with clients and built a solid relationship that allowed us to eventually grow the program even further.
Biggest challenge | Only one full-time motion graphics designer on-hand meant that when we had multiple motion graphics requests coming in, we had to adjust schedules or hire freelancers to pick up the slack. There were many times when I’d have to brief a freelancer on what was needed and help review in close partnership with our Art Director to ensure the content was reflecting the look and feel that clients were accustomed to—so that there was no sense of us missing the mark or deviating from the new aesthetic clients had become so happy with.
Results | After one year completing 25 motion graphics within budget and seeing incredible performance results from them, clients signed up for another year—and this time they wanted to amp up the creative even further. We completed a second year of this program with clients still over the moon, and the continued YoY performance improvement solidified our success yet again.
